Quite a few things to talk about on Travi and Whitey in the Morning! Today we cover Todd McShay’s latest NFL mock draft, Adrian Peterson’s efforts to get Michael Vick and the 76ers so-called NBA basketball team.
In the latest NFL mock draft by Todd McShay, he has the Houston Texans selecting Blake Bortles out of UCF as the #1 overall pick. This is a large leap for Bortles who’s draft stock went up after his impressive performance in the combine. McShay saying the Texans will take him #1 is a very interesting decision in my mind. He is a very talented quarterback and proved that in bowl season, but, the Texans have been showing signs of not selecting a QB with their first pick and searching out a free agent. The Texans desperately need a playmaker at quarterback, which leads you to believe they would select one of the top three playmakers in college football. However, rumors have been swirling that they are thinking about free agent Matt Cassel from the Vikings. What?! Cassel hasn’t done anything special in years! Just ask Chiefs fans. He only won 2 games with the Chiefs and was in a three player rotation on a sub-par Vikings team last year. Why would the Texans pass up on Bortles, Manziel or Bridgewater for a below average QB. Maybe in order to get standout defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney to join JJ Watt? The Texans need a QB bad! I agree with McShay, draft one of the playmakers! I personally would love to see Johnny Manziel stay in Texas and go #1 overall. He didn’t have the greatest combine but the kid has shown his skills on the field by pulling off ridicules plays over and over again. I also think he would be a good fit in Jacksonville. A team who has really struggled as of late but has some potential with the right spark. I would hate to see Manziel go to Cleveland and join the Browns because let’s face it, Cleveland is where young players careers die before they even start. The Browns are terrible and nobody can win there with the team they have now. Only time will tell who’s name comes out of Commissioner Roger Goodell’s mouth for the first 10 pics of the 2014 NFL Draft on May 8th.
Adrian Peterson Tweeted his opinion this week on who the Vikings need to sign as their new QB. The all-pro running back believes the Michael Vick would make the Vikings a playoff team, according to his Tweet on Wednesday. Vick turns 34 this year and isn’t slated to be the starter in Philly. He hasn’t played more than 13 games in a season since 2006 because he is injury prone. However, is true athleticism and NFL game experience could prove to be useful to the struggling Vikings. I don’t really see him helping too much though. Yes, I agree with Peterson in the fact that the Vikings would once again be a playoff team. But, I believe it would be a playoff team who loses in the first round.
Speaking of struggling, let’s make the switch over to basketball and discuss the abysmal season the Philadelphia 76ers are having. The only exciting thing that has happened in that arena all year is the retiring of Allen Iverson’s jersey. However, they may as well have just retired the entire team and season with how terrible they are. They have lost 15 straight games and Vegas has 3:1 odds that they do not win another game all season. They have lost 15 straight. They only have 15 wins all season! They are not quite the worst team in NBA basketball, but they are sure doing their best to get there!
